Cost Basis

Cost basis is the original value of an asset for tax and accounting purposes, usually its purchase price. It determines the gain or loss when the asset is sold. For loans, the purchase (or acquisition) price, including any premium or discount, is the starting point for cost-basis return analysis in LoanStreet Analytics. The term can also describe the difference between a commodity’s cash price and its futures price.
