Duration

Duration measures a loan’s or security’s sensitivity to interest rate changes. Like WAL, it is a weighted average of time, but it weights each period by the present value of the total cash flow received rather than by principal. Variations include Macaulay duration, modified duration and DV01 (also called PVBP), the derivative of price with respect to yield. See also Convexity.
